Position Overview: Are you passionate about rural stories and digital archiving? We are seeking a Coordinator to work with a team to manage project activities and grow PARO’s diversity and reach. This is a temporary, remote, part-time role, offering flexible hours, with mentoring and training from the PARO team. The term is initially from November 15, 2024 – June 30, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

The position is open to U of Guelph doctoral students, post-docs and staff only.
​
Compensation: Hourly rate will be determined based on experience. Candidates must have a masters’ or doctoral degree.

About PARO: The People’s Archive of Rural Ontario (PARO) is an online archive dedicated to documenting and celebrating rural voices and stories. Affiliated with the University of Guelph, our mission is to contribute to the recovery, preservation, and revitalization of rural Ontario. We collect personal and community stories from a broad range of sources to be produced for the archive as text, audio, video, and/or photography. PARO prioritizes diversity and the inclusion of underrepresented rural people. We are committed to creating a platform where rural stories are valued and shared.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Key duties and responsibilities include:

Administration
-
Recruit and coordinate research assistants and story curators.

Contribute to development of online and in-person events.
-
Help develop grant proposals, scholarly presentations and publications.

Coordinate Steering Committee and Advisory Committee meetings.

Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordination
-
Develop strategies for broader engagement in PARO’s activities, especially underrepresented voices
-
With the PARO team, develop strategy for building a network of volunteer storytellers, curators, and editors.

Manage volunteer storytellers and editors.

Technical Responsibilities: Website Management & Design
-
Manage website, including publishing stories.

Using WIX assist in ongoing streamlining of the PARO home website for optimized user experience.

Assist in the creation of a variety of communications media (posters, media, photographs, written resources, and social media).

Create and execute a strategy for social and traditional media
- ​​Support the development and integration of new elements of the PARO website (e.g. ROI-Connect).

Position Requirements:
-
Master’s or PhD Degree
-
A strong balance of technical capacity to work with websites, while also being creative, story-focused, quick learning, and able to take initiative on their own.

Excellent oral and written communication ability is imperative.

Understanding and experience with rural knowledge and issues is desirable.

Prior experience communicating and writing for a wide range of audiences, community-engaged research, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders is an asset.

Access to, and experience using tools or platforms to create communications materials (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or editing software for content creation) is an asset.

The role is remote; candidates must have reliable access to the internet and a computer.
